“This isn’t about the money.” and “You are not going to believe this”- Kristine Anderson

These are the two most common sentences we hear from most clients at the start of an estate dispute. Firstly, we do believe it, estate and capacity disputes are way more common than you think and, it is true: the core of the dispute probably isn’t about money. It is usually about feeling excluded or forgotten, a promise someone swears was made, a role that feels unfair or overwhelming old family dynamics resurfacing at the worst possible moment.

The money is just the trigger. The real conflict is grief, confusion, and unanswered questions. By the time families reach litigation, they’re not trying to “win.” They’re trying to be heard, often for the first time. This is why clear and practical advice on how to proceed matters.
